About the Author and Illustrator

Shari Kitchen

Shari Kitchen is a retired school superintendent whose interests range from playing the accordion, to ballroom dancing; from training Coco to be a therapy dog, to writing children's stories. With a doctorate degree in education and a major in English literature, Shari has had educational articles and poetry published. She is now writing children's literature focusing on the loving relationship between grandparents, grandchildren and their pets. Besides the literary field, Shari enjoys motivational speaking, writing poems for people she knows and loves and donating time and resources to her favorite charitable organizations. Shari also works with her husband, Bill, on the family's 5000 acre potato farm.

Kelley Shirkey has always loved to draw and paint. After graduating from college as an Art major, she began teaching Art in an elementary school. Her love of the written word has translated into creating illustrations for stories and poems, and she has created art for many collaborative works. "Everybody Loves Coco" is her first book as sole illustrator. On a lovely day, you may find Kelley outdoors behind her easel painting en plein air, doing some gardening or walking miles and miles, always looking out for inspiration. Kelley lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her husband and daughter.
